The Taunton workshop on Diabetes was successfully completed. A big thank you to all the participants. Through this workshop they learned more about diabetes and had the chance to assess their risk of developing type 2 diabetes. Also thanks to Diabetes UK for their contributions to the workshop. In the days to come, we will commit to provide more useful information to the Chinese communities in the South West area. Taunton Workshop on Diabetes.
Chinese New Year
The Chinese Lantern Project team joined with the other services within the Bristol and Avon Chinese Woman’s Group to run celebrations for the Chinese New Year.
International Women’s Day
We were delighted to have a stall at the International Women’s Day at the M Shed in Bristol. We met amazing women from many different communities in Bristol. It was an inspiring day.
Fundraising is always an important part of what we do, and one place to do that is at the annual Summer Fayre at the Vassall Centre where we are based. As you can see from the picture below, our members have lots for visitors to buy.
Universal Credit Workshop
The team are often involved in running workshops on a range of issues that are of interest to the Chinese community who use the Helpline. The picture below is from a workshop in 2016 introducing the Universal Credit.
Working with other organisations
It is very important for us to co-ordinate with other organisations who need to know that we exist so that they can direct community members to us. The picture below is from the initial Launch Conference for the Chinese Lantern Project. That involved members of the emergency services, social services, local political representatives, and many other voluntary organisations.
Third party presentations
We often invite third party organisations in to talk to our community of users. In the picture below a group of users is being given a talk about Diabetes, and how to eat and exercise to avoid it.
